Paint & Sip – having fun to save koalas

We had heaps of fun at this year’s PAINT & SIP as a room full of analysts and friends took out their coloured pencils to help us help the koalas.  At our first PAINT & SIP last year we raised funds to help support a team plant out 1000 trees for koalas near Tullymorgan. Our founder Tommy found local hero nature lover and landowner Barbara Linley when he went BUSH (see newsletter).

OUR PROJECT:

With your help we can save more koalas and other endangered & threatened Aussie animals and plants. To discover the endangered or threatened species in your local area check out this interactive website developed by the University of Queensland.

The Good news is….

In October this year the first Koala returned to Barbara’s Clarence Valley property! Click on the video above right to see and hear some of the comments from this year’s Paint & Sip. Find out how you can run an event by reaching out to tommy@thebeats.org.

How much water does a cotton T need?

We also developed a bit of a fun quiz at our Paint & Sip to support Barbara’s returning koalas. In the process we discovered a lot about we didn’t know about taking care of the nature and of course the environment. Do you know how much water it takes to make a cotton T-shirt? See our questions and some answers here.

You are welcome to use our quiz and share your findings. Or feel free to create your own. We’d love to hear what you think, who you support and what you did at tommy@thebeats.org.

Dario’s Insta whales!

Dario Berzosa Sanchez in conversation with the BEATS.org’s Louise Denver. Listen here.

Dario shares how he fits being a Senior Manager in Governance, Risk and Compliance, his love of music, an active lifestyle and a burgeoning Instagram following of his great nature-focused videos, into his days.  Have a listen and enjoy. And remember Dario’s call to action ‘Pick up three pieces of rubbish every day!’ -whether on your way to work, on a walk, or heading bush, or to the ocean. It’s simple and it works!

Vin’s Corner

Vin’s series of AI designed ‘anthropomorphs’ went viral after he produced this explanatory – and yes – hard hitting animated video . It helped us to develop our Trees4Nature Campaign for schools and businesses like our Paint & Sip events.

The anthropomorphic series is on our Instagram feed along with some of our happy camping snaps and the wisdom as ever of Einstein: ‘We still do not know one thousandth of one percent of what nature has revealed to us.’

Shawn shared some GOOD NEWS for the Gliders – aka – the ‘canaries in the coalmine’ for the health of wilderness forests. Wilderness Australia has stopped logging operations in the Tallaganda State Forest for 113 days from 14/11/23.

Did You Know  Pollination is crucial to biodiversity? More than 3/4 of the world’s food crops are pollinated by insects and other animals. NSW’s Environment’s Saving our Species is working to protect them.

In case you missed it the central piece of Australia’s national environmental law is the EPBC – The Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act. It highlights the need to respect and harness the knowledge of Indigenous Australians to learn how to manage the environment better.
